Sexier Book Covers!

I guiltily enjoy Jude Watson's young readers Star Wars books and I've always been a little diappointed that they don't bother with really good art for the covers. (At least not consistently. Some are better than others.) I found these two pictures of the Japanese versions of the covers for the first two books in the Last of the Jedi series on TF.N the other day and thought I should share with anyone who hasn't seen them!

I wish I had taken more Japanese so I had a decent excuse to buy them, other than how sexy Obi-Wan looks on the second one... ^_^; I also saved the hi-res versions, but Photobucket will automatically shrink them down, so if anyone wants them, drop me a comment with your email and I'd be happy to send them along.

I don't know, I don't mind the artwork on LotJ. It was really Scholastic's decision ultimately to use drawn cover art rather than stock images from Episode III, and they're kind of cute. Plus, they would have run into a snag with characters like Ferus or Trever (Trevor?) since, you know, they're not in the movies at all.
These are drawn cover art. That's what I think's so amazing about the Japanese covers in general-- they draw everything, even for just kids' books, and it's incredibly realistic. They do tend to base it on real pictures, which is a little disappointing, but the overall image is unique. They do really well with the post-RotJ EU books, drawing both the movie characters (and aging them properly) and new, unseen characters with the same amount of detail and realness. <3s them! Though I must say, the preview of LotJ #6 looks really well done, too.
Don't get me wrong, I think they're nice covers, and if they're drawn, then whoever it was is talented. But they're still based off of images that you could find with a simple Google search, with no specific reference to Watson's work at all, so it kind of seems like a wasted effort to me.
Yeah, that's the one thing I wish they'd change. :\ They're obviously talented artists, so why don't they make up their own poses and include more stuff from the book? I kinda hope that in future covers with all the new characters, as well as the absence of Obi-Wan, they'll do something awesome and new.
